ingredients
we've gone to great lengths to sustainably source the best that mother nature has to offer. our small batches start with the highest quality organic & vegan ingredients that we're proud to give to our mothers (and we do).
ashwagandha
ashwagandha, also known as indian ginseng, is a popular ayurvedic herb. it’s widely used in plant medicine around the world for its adaptogenic properties that help people reduce stress and fight aches and pains. research indicates that ashwagandha can help reduce insomnia and improve natural focus.
our organic ashwagandha extract is naturally derived from the berry and root of the withania somnifera plant. it has a subtle earthy undertone and provides a soothing addition to the calm tincture and the keep calm balm.
black pepper
black pepper has been used medicinally for thousands of years. it may increase cellular oxygenation, support digestive glands, stimulate the endocrine system, increase energy, and help rheumatoid arthritis. black pepper oil is generally recognized as safe for human consumption and has been shown to work synergistically with turmeric it helps boost and activate the anti-inflammatory of curcumin, which is why we’ve included it in our relief tincture.
blue chamomile
blue (german) chamomile has been used since ancient times for its cooling and calming properties. a cousin of the daisy, blue chamomile gets its color from its high concentration of azulene, the active organic compound inside chamomile.
blue chamomile oil is soft and gentle, making it a safe option for skin conditions such as eczema, rashes, and healing wounds. it also has anti-inflammation and pain-relieving properties, all of which make it a perfect component inside our keep calm balm body butter.
camphor gum
the camphor tree is of the genus cinnamomium, whose species are known be full of aromatic oils inside both their leaves and bark. camphor indeed has a strong smell, but also brings with it powerful topical properties to help alleviate pain, irritation, and itching.
camphor has also been linked to help increase circulation, making it a good candidate to abate arthritis symptoms. it’s useful in relieving congestion and coughing as well, and its overall beneficial properties are still being discovered: there are signs pointing to camphor's effectiveness in healing infections, reducing wrinkles, and treating burns.
due to its potential analgesic benefits, camphor gum is a vital part of our ice ice baby muscle rub.
camphor can reach toxic levels if ingested so make sure to keep it away from any open wounds and never put inside your mouth.
chamomile
loaded with antioxidants, chamomile has been used as a traditional medicine for thousands of years. it helps calm anxiety, relieve nausea, and aid with sleep. in the u.s., chamomile is most commonly used as an herbal tea, but is also regularly used in skin care.
our organic chamomile co2 extract has a rich, comforting, and herbaceous aroma with light fruit undertones. it has been gently extracted via the preferred co2 method to preserve the natural properties of the chamomile flowers. due to this, it retains significantly more beneficial properties compared to a steam distilled chamomile essential oil. we use the chamomile co2 extract in our calm tincture and in our keep calm balm body butter.
clove oil
simply put, clove oil is fabulous for your skin. it has been used ayurvedically for its antioxidant and antibacterial properties, and has been shown to help clear acne and reduce blemishes and redness by cleansing pores.
clove is also a popular oil in aromatherapy, known to calm nerves and reduce stress. lastly, it contains the active ingredient “eugenol,” which is both a natural anesthetic and has natural anti-inflammatory properties. all of these reasons make it a beautiful accessory inside our ice ice baby muscle rub.
clove also provides a warming presence, which balances many of the cooling elements in the muscle rub to allow for even more healing benefits.
coconut-derived mct oil
mct oil is a liquid fat produced by refining raw coconut or palm oil. this process removes and concentrates the mcts (medium chain triglycerides) naturally found in the source material and provides more of the benefits specific to mcts — increased ketone production, metabolism, and mental clarity.
mct oil, also known as fractionated coconut oil, has a far more discrete taste, making it the perfect addition to your favorite sauces, soups, smoothies, and even baked goods. mct oil stays in a liquid state and doesn’t solidify like coconut oil does. it’s also a popular addition to coffee and tea to help athletes boost energy and dieters stave off cravings and help promote fat loss.
our organic coconut-derived mct oil is made from sustainably farmed coconuts. we are committed to sustainable coconut farming and will neve source our mct oil from palm.
coconut oil
coconut oil is a superfood staple in many households for a variety of reasons. it is useful to have in the kitchen for cooking due to its stability under high heat, and it has tremendous health benefits such as burning fat, raising good cholesterol levels, and boosting heart health.
coconut oil is also incredible for your skin. it has natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, contains wholesome fatty acids, and works as an outstanding moisturizer on both the face and body. in other words, coconut oil is great for just about everything and that is why we’ve included it as a primary ingredient in our topical products.
colloidal oatmeal
oat grain (avena sativa) can be ground into fine powder to produce a product known as colloidal oatmeal, and it has been shown to have numerous skin benefits.
colloidal oatmeal has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which result in alleviating the effects of issues such as eczema and psoriasis. it is also very gentle, and can be used on sensitive skin with next to no risk (unless you’re allergic to oats!). people also use colloidal oatmeal to help with itching and dry skin.
because of its soothing properties, colloidal oatmeal has been used in the realm of skincare for centuries. consider us on board – we have put it into our soothe operator therapy cream for all the reasons mentioned above and more!
extra virgin olive oil
olive oil is the queen of healthy fats (self-appointed). it’s packed with oleic acid, which is linked to anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory activities. studies have also shown that the healthy fats in olive oil can reduce blood pressure and risk of heart disease. oleocanthal, a key antioxidant in olive oil, has been shown to work similarly to ibuprofen in the body.
our organic extra virgin olive oil is cold pressed (to retain all of its health-boosting natural compounds) and boasts a wholesome, fruity flavor with a mild earthy undertone.
ginger
ginger is part of the zingiberaceae family, alongside cardamom and turmeric. the root or underground stem (rhizome) of the ginger plant can be consumed fresh, powdered, dried as a spice, in oil form, or as juice. ginger is commonly used in cooking for its delicious flavor, but it has also been used for centuries in medicinal concoctions for its anti-inflammatory and digestive properties. possible health benefits include relieving nausea and fighting loss of appetite, motion sickness, and chronic pain.
the aroma of our organic ginger co2 extract is rich and warm yet smells like a very fresh and very alive ginger root. we find that the co2 extracts of the spice oils are preferable to the more commonly available steam distilled essential oils. the energy and vibrant aroma of the co2 extract is more true to that of the fresh plant material that goes into the extraction and the beneficial properties are more abundant. we’ve added the ginger extract to our relief tincture.
hemp flower
hemp is a term that classifies a type of cannabis plant that contains less than .3% thc.
our hemp flower is grown organically and sustainably on a family-owned biodynamic farm in southern oregon (with rigorous attention to detail and lots of love). this hemp strain has been specifically bred to provide high levels of cannabinoids such as cbd, cbg, cbc, cbn, and extremely low levels of thc.
the cbd-rich broad spectrum hemp extract derived from this hemp flower is gently extracted to remove the thc while preserving the essential terpenes, fatty acids, and accessory cannabinoids (listed above).
hemp seed oil
hemp seed oil is often referred to as hemp oil. it is different from cannabidiol (cbd) in the sense that it is made from hemp seed itself, whereas cbd extracts generally come from the flowering buds of the cannabis plant.
hemp seed oil has tremendous overall health benefits for your skin, such as regulating oil production, moisturizing, soothing inflammation, and having anti-aging properties. these benefits can be experienced whether consuming hemp oil topically or orally.
hemp seed oil can be found inside all three topical products that we offer.
holy basil (tulsi)
holy basil is widely used in ayurvedic medicine and is considered useful for the brow’s energy center (or third eye), the chakra of intuition and soul knowledge. healthy function of the brow chakra allows the individual to trust their intuition and the soul’s natural expression.
ocimum sanctum, a species native to india, is worshipped as the plant of lakshmi, consort of vishnu, and thus considered a sacred plant. it is grown near temples and in home courtyards to invite the presence of the gods and purify the air. also known as ‘tulsi’, holy basil is an adaptogen with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. it is commonly used to treat arthritis and fibromyalgia.
our holy basil (tulsi) extract has a sweet, pungent, clove-like aroma, with a soft balsamic-woody undertone. it also has a remarkably persistent sweetness. we’ve added it to our relief tincture to help soothe aches and pains.
jojoba oil
jojoba oil has a lot of things going for it. it is actually a wax, which gives it a light, greasy consistency that mimics the oils your skin already produces. it is also rich in vitamins A, E, and D.
these reasons make jojoba oil the ideal product to help with skin issues. it can help alleviate acne and is beneficial for sensitive skin. you can also use it in your hair and as a general moisturizer.
jojoba oil also has a very high shelf stability and interacts well with other ingredients. as such, it is crucial component inside all of the products in our line of topicals.
kokum butter
kokum butter has likely been hiding in plain sight at your local health food store all your life. it is derived from the kokum tree, which is also known as wild mangosteen or red mangosteen.
kokum butter is often used in skincare products as a substitute for cocoa butter. it has a non-greasy texture and is high in essential fatty acids, allowing its composition to be readily-absorbed by the skin upon application. we have included kokum butter in our soothe operator therapy cream for its luscious consistency and nourishing properties.
lavender
lavender is an ancient medicinal herb that has been studied and researched for its potential role in alleviating anxiety and sleep disturbances. it’s also known to have calming and mood-enhancing effects.
in ayurvedic terms, lavender oil has cooling (and drying) energy that helps relax the mind, soothe tension, relieve anxiety, combat frustration and pent-up emotions, and evoke an overall sense of composure.
when used topically, lavender has also shown to help reduce acne and signs of aging, relieve dryness, lighten complexion, and equalize ph balance. we’ve added a potent, pure organic lavender oil to both our calm blend tincture and keep calm balm body butter.
lemon balm
lemon balm, also known as balm mint, is an herbaceous plant in the mint family known to have multiple medicinal uses. in traditional austrian medicine, the leaves have been prescribed for internal use as a tea for the treatment of nervous system, gastrointestinal, and other disorders. in alternative medicine, it is commonly known as a powerful sedative and digestive aide.
we love how lemon balm adds a sense of calmness to the daily supplement routine, so we’ve added a super high quality certified organic lemon balm oil to our calm tincture.
manuka oil
manuka oil comes from the same family as tea tree oil. it has a warm presence and sweet aroma that is gentle, cleansing, and soothing when applied topically. it also has antibacterial, anti-histaminic, anti-allergenic, and antiseptic properties.
for these reasons, manuka oil cooperates well with sensitive skin. it is cleansing, can fight inflammation, accelerate wound healing, help treat blemishes, and promote relaxation. you can find manuka oil in our soothe operator therapy cream.
menthol
menthol is an organic compound that is obtained from plants in the genus mentha, such as peppermint. it reacts with cold-sensitive receptors in your skin, which results in the cooling effects it exhibits when applied topically.
menthol can be found in decongestants for chest and sinuses, in aftershave to help prevent razor burn, and in first aid products. it also displays potent analgesic properties, which along with its cooling effects make it a valuable contributor to our ice ice baby muscle rub.
passionflower
p. incarnata has many common names, including purple passionflower and maypop. in addition to being a natural sleep aid, passionflower is commonly used to relieve anxiety and muscle spasms. early studies suggest it might help relieve insomnia and anxiety. it appears to boost the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (gaba) in your brain. this compound lowers brain activity, which may help you relax and sleep better. our organic passionflower extract adds a floral tone and works on the nervous system in synergy with the other herbs in our calm tincture.
peppermint
for centuries, peppermint has been used to soothe digestive difficulties and relieve colic, gas, headaches, heartburn, and indigestion. it also has been shown to help with motion sickness, nausea, skin irritation, and inflammation in the body.
peppermint is purifying and stimulating to the conscious mind and may aid with memory and mental performance. we use peppermint extract in our relief tincture.
raw shea butter
raw shea butter comes from the oily kernels within seeds from the shea tree, a tree native to east and west tropical africa. it is technically a fat, and its creamy consistency is fantastic to work with topically.
shea butter also softens and smoothes skin, and exhibits powerful anti-inflammatory properties. it may help with eczema, acne, dry skin, insect bites, stretch marks, and wrinkled skin. it is one of the main ingredients in all three of our topical products.
spearmint oil
spearmint is a commonly-used herb in most parts of the world. it is a familiar flavor in products such as gum and toothpaste due to its pleasant taste, but can be employed in the kitchen by using it fresh, frozen, or dried. spearmint is high in antioxidants and may be linked to helping reduce stress and lowering blood sugar.
oil of spearmint contains numerous terpenes that give it its distinctive smell, though it is differentiated from peppermint due to its minimal amounts of menthol and menthone. this also results in its effects being milder on the skin. spearmint oil is also said to help with skin dryness and irritation, and its anti-bacterial properties make for a nice cleanser to go along with it.
spearmint oil is a critical element to our mint medley, found within the ice ice baby muscle rub.
turmeric
for centuries, turmeric has been used in south asian countries and india as a spice and medicine. it is recognized as an adaptogen in modern herbalism for its power anti-inflammatory properties and its beneficial effects in many health-related issues. curcumin, the most notable and active compound extracted from the rhizomes of turmeric, has been shown to fight cancer growth and reduce inflammation.
our certified organic turmeric co2 extract has a warm, smooth, and deep woody aroma of the freshly cut root without the crisp, higher notes usually present in turmeric essential oil. the special gentle co2 extraction process captures much more of the lipids and pigments than a typical powdered herb which retains the maximum amount of healing properties. you can find the turmeric co2 extract in our relief tincture.
vanilla bean
sweet and luxurious, vanilla oil has sedative-like properties and can be used to calm the nerves to promote sleep. studies have also shown that antioxidants found within vanilla may improve cardiovascular and mental health.
our organic vanilla oil is a rich, creamy light brown co2 extract that smells and tastes incredible (if we do say so ourselves). vanilla is a synergistic essence, blending well with and enhancing most other oils, which is why we’ve included it in the calm tincture, relief tincture, and keep calm balm.
vitamin e
vitamin e is one of the most essential nutrients you can consume. it helps skin health and cell function, and its natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties help support the immune system as well.
easily absorbed by the skin, vitamin e exists in many cosmetic products such as anti-aging creams, makeup, and sunscreen. it makes for an excellent moisturizer, and also may be effective at reducing damage caused by free radicals and ultraviolet radiation. you can find vitamin e inside all of our topical products.
wild strawberry essence
there are a lot of misconceptions about not only artificial flavors, but also “natural ones.” there are a lot of ways to misrepresent information for the sake of making a sale, and we think it’s important to distinguish between what is right and what is profitable.
an essence comes from capturing the flavor of a fruit or vegetable, often by heating a concentrated juice and collecting the steam. the captured steam becomes the essence, meaning no additives whatsoever are included in the finished product.
providing quality and wholesome ingredients is a priority to us, which is why we’ve gone with an organic wild strawberry essence in our first flavored tincture. we love strawberries and imagine you do too – give our strawberry tincture a try and tell us what you think
wintergreen oil
wintergreen is a group of aromatic shrubs within the genus “gaultheria,” which totals about 135 species. it has historically been used to brew teas that help alleviate symptoms of headache, fever, sore throat, and other aches and pains.
all wintergreen species are characterized as such because they produce an oil (wintergreen oil). this oil is used in diluted form and may help with muscle and joint discomfort, poor circulation, arthritis, inflammation, tendinitis, and more. it can be found within the mint medley of our ice ice baby muscle rub.
